Box of Delights
We were thrilled to be asked to support 2Faced Dance Company with their amazing production of John Maesfield’s Box Of Delights in December 2019.
The first act took guests around the historical sites around Hereford, then back to the Green Dragon Hotel for a scrumptious meal while the second act continues around the diners.
And so, it is time for us to close the lid on The Box of Delights. And what a delight it has been.We would like to thank everyone that helped to make this production the wonderful success that it has been. There are so many we would love to name; The Elmley Foundation, Dance Hub Birmingham, Arts Council England, Dr Phillip Errington, The John Masefield Society, Pentabus Theatre, Chase Distillery, Hereford Pedicabs and Pedicargo, Laura Martin, Wellington Garden Centre, The Little Princess Trust, Arena Lettings, WHAX, Mr & Mrs Rumsey, Ian Lynam, Julian & Zana Barratt, De Koffie Pot & Left Bank Village, Hereford Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral School, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Helen Vereker Singers – Hereford Pop Choir, our menacing pack of wolves, the Courtyard Costume Store, Will Allen, Vey Straker, Reuben Keough, Robert Traynor, Amy Howard-Evans, Carl Hulme, our volunteer stewards, sewers & makers and all the wonderful businesses on Church Street. None of this would have been possible without the huge support and generosity of The Green Dragon Hotel. From day one of us discussing this elaborate plan with them, they have been totally behind us and for that we are so very grateful. The delicious food, the incredible cocktails, the impeccable service have all been vital components of this magical Christmas production.Over the past week we have been fortunate enough to receive many words of praise and fantastic reviews about the production, not to mention national media coverage, and one of the things that people have been asking the most is; “What happens next year?”. We promise to keep you posted on that but first… Christmas! We hope you enjoy this short highlights video and we wish you all the very merriest of Christmasses and a wonderful New Year.

Synopsis: Kay Harker is returning from boarding school when he meets an old Punch and Judy man called Cole Hawlings. They develop an instant rapport, which leads Cole to confide that he is being chased by a magician called Abner Brown and his gang. The gang are after the magical box which is in Cole’s possession. The box allows the owner to shrink in size, to fly swiftly, to go into the past and to experience the magical wonders contained within the box. For safety, Cole (who turns out to be the medieval philosopher and alleged magician Ramon Llull) entrusts the box to Kay.
We were cast as the Bishop’s Choir, who you first meet practicing ahead of the Bishop’s Ball at the Green Dragon Hotel. Inside the hotel, we are hypnotised by the evil Abner Brown and kidnapped. Kay and Cole and their friends battle to keep the box from Abner and his gang, Eventually Kay wins the battle, the spell is broken, we are rescued and the Bishop’s Ball can continue.
